Chief Business Officer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced leader to join us as Chief Business Officer (CBO). This person will play an important role complementing the CEO as the #2 in the organization taking responsibility for sales, managing the existing 4 sales and marketing executives and rapidly building up this team to drive our high velocity business. The CBO will also team up with the CEO to focus on all future VC funding rounds and leverage relationships with existing VCs. Experience in driving sales and raising VC funding are a strong plus. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for leading growth, including building the growth team, evolving sales and marketing playbooks, and building partnerships. Additionally, you’ll work closely with the CEO, leading growth on high impact functions such as VC fundraising, strategic planning, and building a velocity culture. This AI / construction / PropTech startup benefits from material land and expand growth and worldwide / international new customer acquisition opportunities.  

The company is backed by a strong syndicate of VCs and boasts a strong customer base to use as a foundation for exponential growth. 

Location :
New York, USA (open to candidates in other major tech corridors such as SF Bay Area, Austin, Miami, etc.)

  1. Join a fast-growing startup with product-market fit and consistently renewing customers at a very senior level
  2. Shape the growth function including sales, marketing, and partnerships
  3. Work with top construction companies, manufacturers and real estate developers in the US and around the globe 
  4. Participate in contract negotiations and provide strategic inputs on pricing 
  5. Monitor the revenue pipeline and leads, adjusting as necessary to create sustainable growth
  6. Recommend changes to improve efficiency and profitability of operations, including increasing revenues or decreasing costs
  7. Reviewing financial statements and reports to assess company performance, identify risks, and make strategic decisions 


The ideal candidate has:

  1. Experience at a fast paced startup organization, ideally a SaaS company
  2. Co-founder experience is highly valued
  3. VC fundraising experience, exiting via M&A or IPO a big plus
  4. Grown ARR significantly, and set the GTM function up to continue to scale past $20M
  5. Built and led teams selling to enterprise customers with large contract values and complex sales cycles 
  6. Experience collaborating with finance, product management, and marketing on messaging, pricing strategies, and business models to achieve revenue goals
